Likely the most common activity when looking through a capture, is looking at details, back to full zoom out, zoom in to another detail, back out etc.
Full zoom out can be achieved by Home.
But to zoom in requires a ton of scrolling. Would be so much easier to just drag-select a time span to fit.
Ie, mouse down at one end of the desired time span, drag to the left/right until the other end, then release mouse. The selected time span is then fitted.
Look at eg how Otii/qoitech use drag/select/zoom in their analyzer tool, that is a good inspiration.
Edit from Saleae: Added to title "Marquee Zoom" to make this easier for us to search and track this feature request on our end

"Click-dragging the mouse over a region no longer zooms in to that region. Windows is a graphical user interface, but I can't use the mouse to select a region of interest? That boggles my mind. I'm switching back to Logic 1."

"After migrating from Logic 1 to Logic 2, there seems to be at least one important keyboard shortcut missing…
Zoom to Region : Shift+Click and drag over region to zoom
I used this function all the time when using Logic 1… and now that it’s gone in Logic 2, navigating around and zooming into sections of a big trace is horribly cumbersome and time consuming… my mouse wheel is gonna wear out from zooming in & out all the time!"

"Many logic analyzers (Agilent) or asic design tools (Mentor or Synopsys) have a way to quickly
zoom in on the data area. The one I like best is to move the mouse to the 'left' side of the data
you want to zoom into, depress the left mouse button, and then drag the mouse to the right over the
data area to zoom into. Release the mouse button, and the data is zoomed into for you.
Today you have the track ball support, which works, but using this method with the mouse is much simpler
from my user perspective."

I'm surprised... did nobody mention that this was a standard feature of Logic 1 ? I was shocked to find it dropped in Logic 2. This is one of the dazzle features of Logic 1 that made it extremely "slick" and "smooth" to use. Please bring it back. Shift-Click-n-Drag to Zoom In. Usually do that once or twice and you can go from fully zoomed out, to fully zoomed in the the point of interest. Scrolling in with wheel mouse is just not as effective, because you have to constantly adjust where you are point with the mouse while scrolling in with wheel mouse. It just does not work as well as Shift-Click-n-Drag into selected region. As someone else mentioned, this is also similar to waveform viewers in logic simulators. Cadence has it right here, in Simvision. Please follow. Or rather - please put back in the great feature that was already in Logic 1 !

As a quicker solution I would suggest to Saleae to focus the zoom-in by "arrow-up" to the current position of the mouse. If this would work (now the focus is the center of the capture) then I could just use StrokesPlus to simulate an multiple "arrow-up" key pressure with a mouse gesture. Sounds complicated but actually it is very simple

You have a good point. Right now in Logic 2, when pressing the "arrow-up" and "arrow-down" keys, the focus is on the center of the screen, rather than on the mouse pointer position. We haven't committed to changing this behavior yet, but thanks for letting us know your need for this.

Basically it would be the same behavior as the mouse wheel. So "arrow-up" = "mouse wheel up" and "arrow-down" = "mouse wheel down"

"Zoom to a specified area of the capture whithout having to scroll the mouse.
I would like to be able to specify an area with the mouse. When I release the mouse button, the specified area is zoomed in automatically. many thanks!"

I think markusdd is on the right track, but I'd suggest a middle button (usually pressing down on the scroll wheel on modern mice) drag as being a closer fit to the usual scroll wheel zoom usage. That cognitively frees the right button for bringing up a right click menu that might include a "zoom to measurement selection" option?
markusdd
I would not use the middle button for one simple reason:
Logic is very often used in Lab environments on laptops, so Touchpads are often more common than mice as an input source. Depending on the laptop model, a middle click might not be easily available as an input option, at least while dragging across the screen.

I raised this with support and I agree this should be a feature, see my reasoning below:
Many waveform viewers (Cadence SimVision, Synopsys DVE, Open Source GTKWave etc.) support very precise zooming by dragging an area across the waveform display with the left or right mouse button clicked. I think this would be a super useful feature for Logic2 as well.
Actually this kind of selection already exists in the form of measurement area selection.
As holding left mousebutton moves the waveform view in Logic2, I think the natural choice for the zoom selection would be holding down the right mouse button.
