Hardware - USB-C (USB Type C) Connector

A
Arno

The Type C has become the dominant interface, especially as most phones/tablet as well as PC's now support this interface.

It is more robust and flexible than the USB3.0 A/B micro connector as presently found on the logic analyser.

On the next H/W update, please move over to this interface, as it will also allow Android, etc. interfaces without hassles.

Any news about USB-C? The current connector for USB3 is fragile and an upgrade to USB-C is essential in my opinion. I am currently holding my purchase until it will be available.

We don't have any official news to share on this topic yet, but in case you did not want to hold your purchase, we do offer a generous return policy when purchasing directly from us. More information on this can be found below.

Morning Tim!
Long time fan of the Logic software. Can't tell you how many times it has saved me 😅.

For the past couple of days, I've been trying to create suggestion about supporting usb-c connectors, but the post has not gone through. I later realized this was already suggested(the search didn't show it for some reason)
I've tried to switch browsers, devices, but no matter what I do the posts are sent into a black hole and I get a weird error showing up on my screen. Pretty annoying to have to constantly rewrite things.

Being the engineer I am, I looked up some similar tools and there seem to be quite a few that might work better.

Here's some I found:

Hopefully the post goes through this time. Fingers crossed 🤞

It looks like this post specifically went through! I noticed you posted another "Test" idea post. I deleted that one to clean things up here. I'll merge your idea post into the existing one below:

"@saleae is any logic hardware coming any soon with USB-C?"

"I fully understand why you’re making a minimal HW revision. I just wanted to ‘air’ my interest in getting an USB-C connector instead of the old abomination of an USB 3.0 connector.

Going to USB-C would require you to change the casing as well, so further costs. What I hear from colleagues that have worked with mini-USB, micro-USB and the USB-C connectors is that the USB-C is less mechanically stable and sturdy than it’s predecessors. Choosing a USB-C connector with PTH mechanical relief posts is important (with all-SMT connectors, you risk the copper getting torn off the fiberglass base)."

"Count my vote too! USB-c should be standard"

I agree with this request, USB-C is much more robust than the MicroB connector.

That means a whole new aluminium casing which is very expensive. You could use a different cable which has usb-c at the other end though :)

Do you have an idea of how much money we are talking about?

Logic Pro isn't cheap either.

Not unless there is fixed tooling. If the case is CNC machined then it’s just a program change. Were the case to be plastic and new hard tooling were required then the cost would be appreciable.

@Tim if you launch a USB-C version in six months time would I be able to return the analyser I’ve just purchased under your 180 day return policy and then simply buy the new model?

Hi Steve, great point. You are eligible for a refund as long as you meet the requirements summarized below for our 180-Day Return Policy.
