The Python HLA SDK is awesome, but this still assumes that the signal already has been decoder by a native "low level" analyzer.
The current Protocol Analyzer SDK is in C++ which is far from ideal for the average jo. It would be really great if this is brought into the Python world.

Exactly as Sigrok does. You can write your own decoder in a few lines of python. No need for SDK, compile or anything else. Just a text file that is loaded on program start.
Checkout Sigrok. Its the same as Logic 2, but supports way more decoders, open source, and can be used with your Saleae Logic analyzer!
